US Vs Euro

Hey Everyone,

I've a technical question for you all... I have heard about the differences in consoles... 360's, PS3's, and their power usage between the US and Europe. Mainly what I'm trying to get at is... Will an Xbox360 that I buy in Ireland work in the US if I just put an adaptor plug on it? Like will it be compatable with the TV? and the same question in reverse? Would a console I buy here work in Ireland???

I'll leave it up to you technofiles... mainly brim because he seems to know all the techie question...

Xbox 360 - wont work unless you get a 110v power block for it!
ya know about the games that only some are region free and the dvd drive will be restricted to region 2 HD dvds are region free!

Ps3 - should work fine as it has a dual voltage power supply
Games are region free dvd's are not and not all bluray!

Btw i have a 100v power supply for the 360

and with the Tv's you should have no problem if its an LCD they should be able to do both pal/ntsc 50/60 hz

Well, I'm guessing the only problem will be the DVD drive with region games. I don't think U.S. games play on Europe consoles. I could be wrong.

The console will work as long as you get yourself an adaptor.
The games might work. Just make sure you get region free or apropriate region games.
The HD dvd drive is region free and so will work with any hd dvd.

The voltage in the USA is 100-120V - Compared to Europe at 200-240v

You can buy many different voltage converters on the net, try one of those.

Just go to a Hardware store and get a 110v-230v transformer, its what we do on sites here for all tools bought here that are 220v and have UK & IRE plugs as construction site electricty is 110v, so all u need is the transformer and then you can plug any euro zone electronics with you into it, easy peasy lemon squeasy.

Cheers guys.. I'm going to look into getting an American unit shipped over here... I'm not too worried about the regions when I get home as I'll just buy the games from states..
